Dr Fruson graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 1986. He received the prestigious Canadian Veterinary Medical Association Award for Scholarship, Leadership and Sportsmanship. In 1982, Dr Fruson obtained an undergraduate degree in Animal Science from the University of Saskatchewan with an interest in animal genetics and nutrition.
In 1978, Dr Fruson graduated from Rosthern Junior College. He attended public schools in Briercrest and Kerrobert, Saskatchewan.
Dr Fruson was raised on a farm near Moose Jaw where his parents still reside with an abundance of dogs, cats and livestock. As a farm boy, he was active in 4H Beef Club.
Dr Fruson’s household has a long history of homing and caring for pets from animal shelters local and abroad. He is an advocate of shelter/rescue pet adoptions.
Dr Fruson is actively involved with the University of Calgary Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (UCVM), serving as a student mentor, OSCE examiner and admissions interviewer.
